Our Women Center

We have 30 women in three different groups who attend our cycle every week. Women in each session attend yoga, art, and awareness for three months in the cycles. In addition to the cycles, we are running different projects at the Women Center and in cooperations with other NGOs. Circle of Wellbeing strive to closely follow up on the women and children, so we can identify their challenges and support them further when needed.

Yoga

For women accessing our services in particular, mental health care is not a priority or easily accessible. Through our current sessions with women in our yoga project, they have noted the relief and comfort in having a space to learn about handling stress through breathing exercises. They have remarked that the sessions for them is something they have never experienced before and are appreciative of the free space that is close to their homes.

  • Breathing

  • Relaxation and connecting with our body and mind

  • Yoga for trauma and insomnia

  • Laughter yoga

Arts & Crafts

Circle of Wellbeing is seeking to empower women in the Bekaa through arts and crafts projects. We aim to implement art at the end of our yoga sessions, as a tool to build inner peace and skills for an increased feeling of self worth. Art work allows the women we work with to form a mind-body connection and alleviates stress, anxiety, and depressions.

The center provides art-classes three times a week and cover activities such as knitting, suing and other craft-work with equipment provided by the center. It´s a popular activity among the women and ables them to express emotions and identities through their work. Additionally, it brings their cultural heritages and traditions from their home countries into the creative process. The reason for the sessions is to create a safe space where cultural boundaries blur, allowing for social interaction and cross-cultural exchange.

Non-Formal Education

English sessions

The center provides English classes at three different levels to meet the high demand. The class focus on all aspects of language development, including reading, writing, listening and speaking. A new skill helps the women with increasing their self-esteem, increase job opportunities and empowers individuals to teach their children and grandchildren English.

Arabic Literacy

Many women, particularly those from Syria, often have limited or no knowledge of reading and writing in Arabic due to cultural constraints.  To address this, classes have been organized to focus teaching them the basics of reading and writing, starting with the alphabet. This initiative aims to empower these women by enchancing their ability to communicate through messages, and integrate into society in their new country.

Awareness Sessions

Circle of Wellbeing has been leading awareness sessions concerning violence, stress management, mother and child relationships and other psychosocial topics. In 2023, therapists, coaches, doctors, and nurses led our awareness sessions, including both local and international trainers.

  • Women’s Rights

  • Sexual abuse

  • Regulating emotions

  • Violence against women

  • Women’s Health, body and hygiene

  • Parenting

  • Mental Health

We have sessions at the center with trained staff and volunteers who lead sessions about how to regulate emotions, self-love and worth, how to connect with inner self and feelings.

  • Psychosocial Support

Many of the women at the center are asking for PSS. Topics are often parenting, how to deal with their trauma, and emotions.

  • Women's health, body and hygiene

At the center we have nurses and doctors who talk about different women’s diseases, common challenges with women’s body and hygiene. We also talk about menopause and menstrual health.

Child Care

It is important for Circle of Wellbeing to provide a space for children so that the women can attend the sessions at the center.

In our child-friendly space, volunteers (local and international) look after children from ages 0 to 10 years old while their mothers participate in the sessions. Volunteers lead educational and engaging activities in Arabic and English. This involves songs and dance, movement, games, coloring and art activities, and independent play. For independent play, our room is filled with a range of toys appropriate for different ages. It’s a well balanced approach that creates an engaging learning environment for the children.

The space is separate from the women so that they can enjoy a break and focus on themselves during the session time.
